COVID19 Vaccine Programme Update 25.01.2021

In line with Welsh Government guidance, we have been asked by Cardiff and Vale Health Board to vaccinate patients aged 80+.

Once completed, we will be contacting patients aged 75 – 79 years.

There was a change at the end of last week to the 70 – 74 year age group where we are advised that GPs will now NOT be providing vaccines to that age group.

The practice received 50 Oxford/ Astra Zeneca Vaccines, which were given to our first 50 patients on 16.1.2021

The second delivery of 100 Oxford/ Astra Zeneca Vaccines were received last week and bookings were being made for the next 100 patients in our over 80 age group, and these will be used this week.

Our Third delivery is due sometime this week, but we have no clearer indication at this time when the delivery will be received.  Until the vaccine is in stock, we feel unable to book further ahead.

We have around 360 patients in our over 80 age group to vaccinate (this excludes those in care homes) and whilst the press reports that 70% have been vaccinated, we have only received 150 vaccines, which is only enough vaccine for 41% of that age group.

We are working really hard to ensure that as soon as vaccines are with us, that we open the next set of clinics and quickly book patients in age order.

We have started sending letters of invitation to some patients, where there is enough time to allow for the postal service to deliver letters in time.

Once we have completed our over 80 age group (we predict this work will be complete by the end of next week) we will start work on our 75 – 79 year olds.

Please do not call the surgery at this time to ask about vaccination appointments.  Especially if you are not in the age categories.  We have no other information available to us at this time for any other categories of patients to be vaccinated.  We are unable to deviate from the groups we have been asked to vaccinate.

The only patients who should be contacting us are those in receipt of a letter who

  • Have had covid symptoms/ tested positive for covid 28 days prior to their appointment date
  • Have had another vaccine in the 7 days prior to their appointment date
  • Have had a severe reaction to a medication or vaccination in the past that required medical attention
  • Those who have an appointment but are unable to attend on the day because they are unwell or have developed covid19 symptoms.

We will seek to update this page on a weekly basis to clarify our current status on the programme.
